Filmed over seven years and not available to watch online, Street Smart explores how American hip-hop gave a generation of young people in Britain a voice through decades of struggle, creativity and change.
Told through rare and uncensored interviews, the film features artists and figures from across hip-hop and music culture, including Ghostface Killah, Method Man and Statik Selektah, alongside photographers, filmmakers and musicians whose work has connected them with the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, The Notorious B.I.G., Aaliyah, Nas, J. Cole, Freddie Gibbs and Giggs.
The film also includes rare behind-the-scenes footage of all the living members of Wu-Tang Clan together in the UK – the only footage of its kind captured in more than 20 years.
As part of Urban Kingdom’s 15th anniversary celebrations, Docks Academy is one of a limited number of venues selected to host a special screening of the film.
The screening runs for approximately 80 minutes, with a soundtrack of classic hip-hop keeping things going afterwards. Grab a drink, watch the film on the big screen and stick around for the music afterwards.
